How to write and online course with Shawna Longo

Listen to the episode here (or on your favourite podcast app):

Today we welcome back Shawna Longo – a music educator from New Jersey – for the third time. Shawna has just finished creating a full online course for Music First and I thought it would be great to have her on to share some tips for tackling course and lesson design when you’re starting from scratch.

Tips for creating learning materials:

  • Map out broad topics/areas first, then units, then individual lessons
  • Create a standard structure or guidelines for yourself
  • Provide more than one activity type so students can choose to showcase their knowledge in their preferred style
  • Design the course materials with generic instructions to give yourself flexibility in the future
