MTT86: My Favorite 3 Free Non-Music Tech Resources

There are many free tech resources that are useful in the music classroom, but not all of them are music-specific. Here are 3 of my favourite non-music free tech tools that are perfect for ALL teachers across all subject areas.

For each one, I’ll cover:

  • What it is
  • How it works
  • Examples of use

1. Flipgrid

2. Wakelet

3. Loom

Hello! I’m Katie Argyle – an Australian music technology trainer and consultant with a passion for helping music teachers through my businessMidnight Music.

I’m a qualified teacher but no, I don’t currently teach in a school. I help teachers through my online professional development space – theMidnight Music Community– where there are tutorial videos, courses, links and downloadable resources.

I like to focus on easy ways to incorporate technology into what you are already doing in your music curriculum through a range of creative projects.  I also run live workshops and have presented at countless conferences and other music education events.

If you want simple, effective ideas for using technology in music education, I would LOVE to help you inside the Midnight Music Community.

    Hi Katie,

Thanks for including my Wakelet guide in this post. We think alike as I am a big fan of these three tools. I’ve also written a guide to using Loom for screencasting. Not sure if that will help your readers as well.

Thanks also for your wonderful resources which I have used before when out of my comfort zone teaching music!

I have now set up my year 7 classes with wakelet. It is easy to use and finally I have a digital online portfolio system where students can easily upload their performance videos so they can track their progress of learning in a visual way. Thanks Katie for showing us this in the online training.
