A Note to Teachers
In a rapidly changing world, it is more important than ever for us to acknowledge the profound role that music educators play in shaping the future. Our role as music teachers is not just to impart technical skills and knowledge but also to instill a sense of creativity, empathy, and self-expression in our students.
As the world becomes increasingly digital and technology-driven, the ability to think creatively and express oneself through the arts remains a defining characteristic of what it means to be human. As music teachers, we have the unique ability to cultivate that creativity in our students and to help them develop the emotional intelligence and communication skills that are so vital in today’s world.
As we look towards the future in 2023, it is important to remember that our role as music educators is not only to teach music but also to teach about life. Through music, we are teaching our students how to persevere through challenges, how to think critically, and how to pursue their passions. We are equipping them with the tools they need to navigate an ever-changing world while never forgetting how incredible it is to simply connect to one another.
As music teachers, we have the privilege of playing a vital role in shaping the future. I hope that we always continue to be creative and innovative in our teaching methods and to provide opportunities for our students to grow in meaningful ways. I hope that we always remember the power of music to bring people together, inspire, and communicate that which is often failed by the simple barriers of language. Goodness, how much that is so desperately needed right now!

I’ve been listening to podcasts for around 12 years now, and it’s a daily thing for me. Most of the time, I discover new podcasts through word of mouth, so I wanted to share some of my personal favourites so that you all might find some new things to listen to.
In this episode, I’ll be sharing some of the education podcasts that I listen to regularly.
One of the podcasts I listen to regularly is The Chromebook Classroom podcast by John Sowash. It’s a useful and interesting ed tech podcast even if you and your students don’t use Chromebooks. John does a regular “10 Links You Should Click” episode and I thought I might start something similar on this podcast – 10 Tech Tips and Links that I will share once a month. It will be a collection of new, interesting or useful tech things to check out or try.
