Introduction
If you’ve been on the internet much over the last several weeks, you’ve probably seen and heard a lot about…corn. A very excited young child named Tariq who was being interviewed at a county fair recently described his first taste of corn on the cob, “It’s a big lump with knobs, and it has the juice. When I tried it, everything changed!”
For some context, here’s the original adorable interview video which has delighted the internet with its innocence and childhood nostalgia on Youtube:
The ‘It’s Corn’ meme has blown up worldwide into thousands of viral videos on TikTok, Youtube, and Instagram and while it’s delightfully light, it’s also a wonderful and positive way to enjoy some music-making with your students. That’s because, in true meme fashion, it was also turned into a super-catchy song by the YouTube Channel, ‘schmoyoho’:
Several music tech teachers, being the true geniuses they are, took this song and have made a handful of great music classroom play along videos!
So, let’s enjoy taking a break from the intensity of the last several years and enjoy some fun “It’s Corn” play along videos from music tech teachers around the world.
“It’s Corn” Rhythm Play Along: Mr. Henry’s Music World
I’ve always loved things from Bill Henry who runs Mr. Henry’s Music World (I’ve even had him on the podcast!). His rhythm play along gets the corn popping with a fun video focused on playing quarter notes/crotchets, paired eighth notes/quavers, half notes/minims, and rests.
“It’s Corn” Boomwhacker Play Along: Swick’s Classroom
Tyler Swick runs the Youtube channel, “Swick’s Classroom,” which has tons of brilliant boomwhacker and rhythm play along videos. His video for ‘It’s Corn’ is creative and capitalizes on some fun rhythm and harmonies.
“It’s Corn” Simple Rhythmic Play Along from Kerrianne Burch
Kerrianne Burch’s Youtube Channel has a number of lovely play along videos for rhythm. Her video for ‘It’s Corn’ is a simpler one with quarter notes/crotchets, paired eighth notes/quavers, half notes/minims, and rests. It also has a section in the middle for a dance break!
“It’s Corn” Ukulele Play Along from Ukeplayalongs
The Ukeplayalongs YouTube channel is a fabulous place to look for new, fun, and ever-on-trend play along videos for Ukulele. They feature two ‘It’s Corn’ videos, a standard-tuning video (GCEA), and a Baritone Ukulele video (DGBE).
Both videos feature the chords C, D, G, and Em.

“It’s Corn” Easy Guitar play along from Spencer Hale
Spencer Hale hosts lots of guitar and ukulele play along for music teachers and students on their YouTube Channel. Here’s an easy play along for guitar using the chords C, D, G, Em, F, Am, and B.
“It’s Corn” Orchestral Arrangement by Tony Manfredonia
While it’s true that this arrangement is not a play along video per se, it was truly tickling to see a great orchestral example of ‘It’s Corn’ playing with the limits of what’s possible. This would be great as a hook for your students! Be sure to check out Tony Manfredonia’s YouTube channel here!
